Horace Newman arrived home dur ing the weekend for his first visit since joining the Navy. He looks thin, but weighs the same. He swapped some fat for muscle and is full of pep for the Navy .... Cadet Bill Blackwell is now at Miami, Fla., Naval Air Station, C B-2, Room 125 .... Edward Cox whose Navy address is in care of the Postmaster at New York writes that he is enjoying the Bulletin.Miss Edith /Preston and Miss Cora Lipscomb are in Red Cross service at Fort Bragg.Dr. Henry Nelson Snyder has resigned as president of Wofford college and has been succeeded by Dr. Walter Greene, <dfl^ssor of English and Dean of l^Brergraduates at Duke Universi ty, who is also a graduate of .Wofford and former pupil of Dr. Snyder.Mrs. Ella Fowles, who has two sons in the Navy had some R. 0. T. C. equipment which she gave through Dr. George Farrand Taylor to any Wofford student needing it. One of them wrote Dr. Taylor, “I was the fortunate person to re ceive the equipment you so kind ly left at the R. 0. T. C. office, and. wish to express my personal thanks. TEACHERS WANTED! The Community Bible school at the Tryon First Baptist church which opened Monday morning with 71 pupils had 103 present this morning. This sudden increase makes it desirable to have some more teachers in order to give more personal attention to the pupils. There is room for many more pupils and Mr. Henry, the pas tor, says they are glad to have them; but more teachers are wanted for this week and next week. Anyone willing to give some time in mornings to teach ing Sunday school work may con tact Mrs. C. A. Martin the prin cipal. Please offer your services as. early as possible. Her resi dence phone is 160-J.. STORES CLOSE JULY 4TH The stores of Tryoo will close on Saturday, July 4th. according to a statement by Secretary N. L. Wilson, of the Tryon Merchants Association, who made a check up on the wishes of the merchants. >. This will give Saturday and Sun day to many workers who never get a big weekend. The stores of Spartanburg will also close. Other towns have not been heard from. A celebration will be held at Spartanburg’s Duncan park. Gov ernor J. M. Broughton lias issued a proclamation calling on the people of the state to observe the Fourth of July as VICTORY DAY and urges full cooperation with the Civilian Defense organ izations in all the 100 counties of the State, and to observe the occasion in manner most fitting and effective.
